Identifying a U-M faculty host is not necessary to apply for the program. However, candidates who identify a U-M faculty member who is willing to write a Faculty Host Letter of Support (for a full list of application requirements, click here) will automatically pass to Phase 2. For a list of U-M faculty who are interested in serving as a host for this program, see this list. Note: unlisted U-M faculty are also eligible.

Are you a University of Michigan faculty member and interested in becoming a host for this program? As a a host for an African Faculty Fellow, you will provide direct support during the Fellow’s first year, in particular as you co-design and complete a research project with $40,000 in funding provided by Schmidt Sciences. In their second year, each Fellow returns to their home institution in Africa to complete an additional research project with $50,000 of research funding, for which you will also serve in an advisory role. If you fill out the form below, prospective applicants may contact you about becoming their faculty host. In addition, MIDAS staff will contact you in mid-October to review applications, with the option to select applicants for whom you would be interested in serving as a faculty host.
