The MIDAS Research Fellow Community
MIDAS houses a thriving community of postdoctoral researchers covering an extremely diverse range of disciplines and research foci. You can learn more about current and prior MIDAS Fellows, and about their faculty mentors. Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Eric and Wendy Schmidy AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship, funded by Schmidt Sciences, seeks to catalyze research through the application of AI to scientific research. Schmidt postdocs at MIDAS do research in biology and biomedical science (excluding treatment discovery), earth and environmental science, engineering, mathematics, or physical science. Each Schmidt postdoc at MIDAS is supported by two U-M faculty mentors, one specializing in AI methodologies and one specializing in the postdoc’s scientific domain.
Michigan Data Science Fellowship
The Michigan Data Science Fellowship is a core component of MIDAS’ effort to catalyze the transformative use of Data Science in a wide range of disciplines to achieve lasting societal impact, through research, education, outreach, and partnership. MDS Fellows do research in one or more of the following categories: enhancing scientific and societal impact; measuring and improving society; transforming health interventions; data science theory and methodology development. Each MDS Fellow is supported by two U-M faculty mentors.
Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science African Faculty Fellowship
The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science African Faculty Fellowship, funded by Schmidt Sciences, fosters the development of AI-enabled research among current faculty members at African universities. Each African Faculty Fellow joins the program for two years: in residence at the University of Michigan for 12 months to develop AI-enabled research, and 12 months at their home institution in Africa to carry out their research plan. The Fellows do research in biology and biomedical science (excluding treatment discovery), earth and environmental science, engineering, mathematics, or physical science. African Faculty Fellows each have a U-M Faculty Host who provides guidance, advice, and support for the Fellow’s development in AI for science methodologies and overall research plan.
MIDAS Postdoctoral Affiliates Program
The MIDAS Postdoctoral Affiliates Program promotes the dissemination of AI and data science methodologies for scientific research throughout the University of Michigan’s postdoctoral research community. Postdoctoral Affiliates are active members of the MIDAS community, participating in events, and benefiting from a robust offering of professional development opportunities. Current and incoming U-M postdocs are eligible to apply.
