The focus of the Barton Research Group lies at the intersection of smart manufacturing, robotics, and intelligent controls. Research in my group focuses on the development of cooperative and learning-based methods to harness information from complex systems to improve understanding and enhance the performance of these systems. Our research combines data-based learning with fundamental physics to derive models for monitoring within a digital twin framework, enabling intelligent decisions that save time, money, and resources for these applications. Outcomes from this research have resulted in strong contributions to the theory, design, and application of novel monitoring, modeling, and control strategies for smart manufacturing and robotic systems
