ML with a chemist-in-the-loop was used to identify reaction conditions for plastic recycling.
Plastic pollution was a huge environmental problem. Without viable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly pathways for recycling and upcycling, there was little incentive to change the way we thought about and handled plastic waste. I had always been passionate about finding solutions to this problem. As an AI in Science fellow, I wanted to learn and combine chemical knowledge with machine learning to efficiently identify experimental conditions for plastic recycling via electrochemical pathways.
