Integrating simulations and ML to decode protein dynamics

Wycliffe Omwansu is a computational biophysicist who uses AI and molecular simulations to study protein misfolding in diseases like Alzheimer’s. He combines physics-based simulations, graph theory and machine learning to uncover the molecular pathways that trigger toxic fibril formation.

His work is motivated by impact. In many African communities, dementia is misinterpreted as witchcraft, leading to stigma and delayed care. By revealing the molecular mechanisms of protein aggregation, he hopes to support awareness, education, and earlier interventions.

Wycliffe Omwansu aims to build African research capacity by developing AI-driven tools, creating reproducible workflows, and training scientists to apply these methods locally. His work bridges biophysics, AI, and public health, strengthening brain health research across the continent.
