Shanshan (Shirley) Liu earned her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and her M.S. and B.S. degrees in Transportation Engineering from Southeast University, China. Prior to joining MIDAS, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, where she specialized in sustainable transportation-energy systems.
Her research focuses on transportation electrification policy and planning, sustainable transportation systems, and the interdependence of transportation and energy sectors. With the application of AI methods in transportation domain, she aims to explore the nexus between building energy systems and electrified transportation, with the goal of enhancing community resilience and mitigating health impacts during climate change events and power outages.
