Overview
With the advent of explosive growth in data and computational power, data analytics has become a central theme for decision-making in business organizations. In this MIDAS colloquium, world-renowned researchers and practitioners will discuss recent advances and latest developments in decision making through data analytics, and their applications. The colloquium will offer an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners in data analytics to get together, exchange ideas, and foster research collaborations.

Susan Murphy, Radcliffe Alumnae Professor, Harvard Radcliffe Institute; Mallinckrodt Professor of Statistics and of Computer Science, Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Susan A. Murphy is a Radcliffe Alumnae Professor at Harvard Radcliffe Institute and Mallinckrodt Professor of Statistics and of Computer Science at Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. A 2013 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, she was previously the H. E. Robbins Distinguished University Professor of Statistics, a research professor at the Institute for Social Research, and a professor of psychiatry, all at the University of Michigan.
Murphy earned her BS from Louisiana State University and her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on analytic methods to design and evaluate medical treatments that adapt to individuals, including some that use mobile devices to deliver tailored interventions for drug addicts, smokers, and heart disease patients, among others. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and of the National Academy of Sciences.
David Simchi-Levi, Professor of Engineering Systems, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
David Simchi-Levi is a Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT. He is considered one of the premier thought leaders in supply chain management and business analytics. His research, see Data Science Lab, focuses on developing and implementing robust and efficient techniques for operations management. He has published widely in professional journals on both practical and theoretical aspects of supply chain and revenue management.
He was the founder of LogicTools, which provided software solutions and professional services for supply chain optimization. LogicTools became part of IBM in 2009. In 2012, he co-founded OPS Rules, an operations analytics consulting company. The company became part of Accenture in 2016. In 2014, he co-founded Opalytics, a cloud analytics platform company focusing on operations and supply chain intelligence. The company became part of the Accenture Applied Intelligence in 2018.
Jonathan Owen, Chief Scientist for AI/ML and Operations Research, General Motors
As the lead executive of GM’s Advanced Analytics COE, Jon oversees innovation, new capability development and business implementation activities in several areas, including revenue management, vehicle content planning and optimization, and market demand modeling. Over a two-decade+ career he has extensive leadership and consulting experience in development and use of new analytic capability. His personal research expertise includes developing new modeling systems, algorithms, and software tools for the analysis and improvement of automotive manufacturing systems and business processes; he was a co-developer of GIDEN, a visualization environment for network optimization, and contributor to the early design of the NEOS Server for Optimization.

Warren Powell, Chief Analytics Officer, Optimal Dynamics; Professor Emeritus, Operations Research and Financial Engineering, Princeton; Founder, CASTLE Laboratory
Warren Powell the Chief Analytics Officer of Optimal Dynamics, and is a Professor Emeritus after retiring from Princeton where he served as a faculty member in the Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton University where he has taught since 1981. In 1990, he founded CASTLE Laboratory which spans research in computational stochastic optimization with applications initially in transportation and logistics. In 2011, he founded the Princeton laboratory for ENergy Systems Analysis (PENSA) to tackle the rich array of problems in energy systems analysis. In 2013, this morphed into “CASTLE Labs,” focusing on computational stochastic optimization and learning.
