The Michigan Institute for Data and AI in Society (MIDAS), in a new partnership with the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) and the Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation (IHPI), has established a new funding track dedicated to supporting health sciences, broadly defined, for the 2025 cycle of the Propelling Original Data Science (PODS) program. Track 3: Health Science and Health Policy will support up to 10 groundbreaking projects that harness data science and AI to advance health science practices and inform equitable, effective health policy. With funding of up to $70,000 per project, this track encourages innovative research in clinical and translational science, AI governance, and novel health applications.
“This partnership brings together the strengths of MIDAS, MICHR, and IHPI to support cutting-edge projects at the intersection of AI, health research, and policy,” said John Ayanian, Director of IHPI. “By funding interdisciplinary collaborations, we are ensuring that data science and AI are leveraged responsibly to enhance healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.” Jim Maszatics, Director of Informatics at MICHR added, “This track not only accelerates innovative research but also lays the foundation for long-term impact, driving external funding opportunities and advancing Michigan’s leadership in health data science.”
“Our collaboration with the IHPI and MICHR exemplifies MIDAS’s support to the medical school and the broader healthcare research community on campus at this pivotal moment when leveraging AI is the key for our research community to stay as a national leader in healthcare research.” states MIDAS director, H.V. Jagadish.
