“Video Analytics for Eye Diseases” – MIDAS Mobile Sensor Analytics Working Group
October 17, 2018 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Weiser Hall, MIDAS, Suite 600
Speaker: James Weiland, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Ophthalmology
Title: Use of video analytics for improved diagnosis, efficacy assessment, and device optimization in eye disease
Brief description: Treatments for eye diseases are improving and partial vision restoration is now possible. But assessment of visual function is typically done in a clinic under artificial conditions. With wearable sensors (cameras, IMU, GPS), we can determine someone’s location in the world, what they are looking at, and how they respond. Can this data, with environmental information (weather, etc), be analyzed to 1) assess visual function in a real-world environment to determine the efficacy of a treatment? 2) optimize the function of medical devices that aid the visually-impaired?
The talk will be followed by open discussion on methods, concepts, collaboration and funding.
