MIDAS & CSCAR Joint Workshop: Using Real-World Data to Learn Coding on Julia Programming Language

February 3, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

619 Weiser Hall

MIDAS and CSCAR will hold a drop-in coding session for beginners to learn to use Julia for basic data analysis, using real-world data as examples.  Open to faculty, staff and students. No prior experience with Julia is expected.  Participants can learn to manipulate, analyze and model data with Julia, using large public AIS datasets recording the tracks of ships traveling in US coastal waters.  These materials are a starting point.  An experienced Julia programmer will be present to explain the example code, and to guide people who wish to explore the data in other ways.  Participants should bring a laptop, and plan to either install Julia on their machine, or use a Great Lakes account to run Julia on the UM cluster.
