Oct. 10 town hall meetings: Post-docs paid for by the AI in Science Fellowship Program (10/02/2022)
A large new AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Michigan (the AIM Program) will launch at U-M this semester and fund 10 new post-docs each year. Please join our town hall meetings on Oct. 10 (Monday) for more information.
This is a campus-wide postdoctoral program managed by MIDAS. With generous funding from an as yet unnamed donor, we will be able to cover 100% of postdoc salary and benefits for roughly 60 postdocs in the next six years. The program focuses on enabling major research breakthroughs in science and engineering through the adoption of cutting-edge AI methodologies. Each Fellow will be supervised by two faculty mentors, one “Science Mentor” and one “AI Mentor.” Please see the FAQ page for more information – though please note that due to publicity constraints, access to the FAQ is temporarily limited to users with umich.edu email addresses.
The timeline to recruit the 2022 postdoc cohort is very tight. We will start accepting applications right away, and the deadline is Nov. 7. This is in response to the donor’s request to have the first cohort onboard in 2022. Because the time to recruit the first cohort is so rapid, we strongly encourage applicants who are able to join this new program before the end of 2022, including those already at U-M.
At the town hall meeting, the program leadership team will provide details of the program, outline the application process, and answer questions. There will also be networking time so that faculty members interested in being mentors can talk with each other, and potential candidates can connect with faculty mentors. You are more than welcome if you are simply curious about the program or about the “AI in Science” research theme. If you are thinking about being a mentor, or if you are a student / current postdoc thinking about applying, we strongly encourage you to come and get your questions answered.
Meeting #1: Oct. 10, 10 am – 12 pm, Tishman Lobby, Bob and Betty Beyster Building, 2260 Hayward Street.
